A ear splitting scream erupts from an alleyway in one of the darker corners of Aeronwen. Frantic footsteps can be heard as a woman runs as though for her life. Tears streaming down her face as untelligible words escape her lips. Although she seems to be running from something, no other footsteps are heard. She is not being followed. Gathering her senses and clearing her head, she begins to rush to door after door, trying to find someone to help.

She thinks to herself as she searches, "There was too much blood. That poor soul was in so much pain."

Artemis had been going on her patrols she did monthly to give another poor soul rest. She heard the ear splitting scream and ran toward the source.

As she ran her nose picked up the scent of blood, lots of it. She picked her pace, racing to the source praying she would get there in time to save whoever was losing this much blood.

A terrible sight lay in wait for any who chose to walk by the alley that night.

Nailed to a wall towards the back of the alleyway rest a pair of large, ashen wings. It appeared as if someone, or something, was being held here and had struggled to get free. Fragments of bone and tissue could be seen in the pool of blood that had gathered at the base of the wall, as well as hanging from the remains of where the wings had once been attached.

It was clear from the scene that the owner of these wings could not have gone very far. With the amount of blood pooling on the alley floor it's amazing they were able to move at all. It was clear that this thing was not human. And based on the bone splinters scattered across the ground and jutting from where the shoulder joints should be on the wall, the being still had part of the wings attached to him. Not only would the exposed flesh and bone be incredibly painful, it was also extremely susceptible to infection. If this being were to survive the lack of blood and the many hungry animals, he would still have a fight to win inside his own body. The outlook of this life appeared to be as dim and gray as the wings mounted on the wall.

The only clue as to where the creature was now was a trail of blood and a few hand prints leading farther into the alley. It had apparently tried to drag itself away.

Artemis had seen many things in her long life but this was a first for her. It looked as if a Fallen Angel had been pinned there and had ripped his or her wings of to get free.

"His," Artemis said quietly, "the scent is male. And with that much blood gone and flesh trauma, he can't have gone far. If he's not treated soon he will end up dead. I've gotta find him"

Artemis hurriedly followed the trail of blood to find the owner it was spilling from. On her way she called the hospital to get in touch with a doctor. None were available at the moment. "Go figure," Artemis thought. "Never there when you need them. d**n."

The trail leads to a pile of discarded rags and worn out clothing and a few trash cans that had been pulled over. Amidst the trash and grime lay a body. Having been cast down from the heavens where no clothing was needed, He had attempted to drape some of the discarded rags and such around his body to keep what little warmth was left within him. On any normal trip to the mortal plane the wings with which he had been gifted would have been used to wrap around his body but it was apparent that that wasn't going to happen now.

The body shivered underneath the left over food and the discarded bottles and cans. The life still remained within his veins due only to the fact that he was not mortal. It is true that he had been cast out of the heavens and attached to the alley wall in the hopes that he would attempt to tear himself free and rip off his wings, thus making him human and susceptible to bleeding to death, but his wings had not broken off at the shoulder as expected.

Understanding why he had been banished and what his punishment was to be, the angel knew that he would die if he were to break free as expected so he chose to reach up and with repeated strikes against the brick wall, shatter the bone about a foot after the wing's shoulder joint. He knew the pain would be nearly unbearable, but he also understood that this was the only way he'd have a chance of surviving.

Because he was able to leave enough of the wing attached to his body, it had kept him alive, but just barely. He knew that if he was to survive this and obtain the correct nourishment he would be able to regrow his wings through a painfully long process. But it would be difficult to find the items necessary, if they even still existed on this world at all. But that wasn't his current concern. His current concern was to continue breathing. He would worry about his wings tomorrow, that is, if there is a tomorrow

Artemis heard a noise close to where she was headed. She looked among the trash to find a man there. It had to be the one whose wings were currently nailed to that fence back far behind her.

It had to be him for some of the ashen wings parts were still attached. He hadn't completely clipped his wings.

"My God... How have you survived?" She whispered when she got a good look at how deathly pale he was. If she didn't do something fast he wasn't going to be alive for very long.

"My name is Artemis, and I am the Captain of the Mages and the Guardians. I'm going to call someone to come help you and then we'll see if we can't get your wings off that fence and reattached to your body." She said calmly as she took off her cloak and placed it around his nude body to try and stave off some of the cold and to get him clothed.

Artemis then grabbed her communicator to try the hospital again.

"Th... tha... th-hank y-you" the form managed to mutter before succumbing to the lack of blood and the icy chill that was working it's way up his spine. He had finally passed out and now lay unconscious in the dark alleyway. The bleeding from the splintered wings had finally began to stop and his body was now forcing out the fragments that could not be refused. As long as the life remained within him, the wounded remains of his wings would cease bleeding and begin the long regrowth process. The ends of the wounds were already beginning to close.

Within the hour they would be closed and the danger of bleeding to death would be passed. Most injuries dealing with the wings tended to heal rather quickly since they are so vital.

Many times people think that it is the body that heals it's wounds, but it's actually the wings that hold that power. They may seem like just another limb of an angel, but they have a psuedo-consciousness unto themselves. This psuedo-consciousness communicates with the body's consciousness to allow the angels greater control over their wings without devoting their entire focus on them. This also allows the wings to heal themselves, as such is sure to have happened to the set this angel left divinely fastened upon the wall.

Although the wings could not be reattached, they could be used for other purposes, some medicinal, others personal. He would attempt to return and reclaim parts of his wings for possible use as bartering tools to obtain some of the herbs and other items needed for the regrowth process. That is, as long as his wings had not been stripped by the time he was able to return.

"d**n that doctor." Artemis almost yelled. She'd had enough. She didn't know what she was going to do to save the poor man from dying.

*Flashback*

"Understand dear. Your blood has become very powerful now. You can heal others with it. But if they are human it will come at the cost of their humanity." The kindly old woman spoke to her.

Artemis was still deathly pale and could barely move her finger. She had been found by the squadron the young soldier, the one she had saved from going to the Weretiger's Lands, had sent out to help her if she needed it.

"I am no longer human am I?" Artemis asked somberly.

"No my dear you are not. I am sorry. Their blood has made you into everyone of them that clawed and bled you." The old woman said.

"What will happen to those who are not human, if I give them blood?" Artemis asked trying to get her mind off her lost humanity.

"If they are not human, then it will regenerate their bodies back to health. Bringing them back from death, if they are so injured, whether they be Angel, Demon, Lycan, and so dear. All that are not human can benefit if you wish them to." The woman explained.

*End of Flashback*

"I hope this will truly help you. And hopefully this won't come back to bite me in the rear." Artemis whispered. She then bit into her wrist where upon her blood began to flow quickly. She had to put her wrist to his mouth quickly or the wound would close up.

Artemis brought the man into her lap to rest his head. She then place her wrist onto his open mouth and hope he could get relief from the pain with this.

Consciousness came flooding back to the man, as did the immense pain that unconsciousness so sweetly concealed. He let out a scream as his body began to rapidly seal the wounds he had amassed. All the cuts and scrapes, the gouges, tears, and abrasions, the fractures and splintered bone; all began to heal themselves, but not peacefully.

His body was never meant to be healed this quickly. And his wings refused to abide by this "miracle heal" they'd been presented with. They could not fight it all, as was apparent by the bone shards that were now being expelled from the wing segments at a dizzying speed. Each fragment would rip a new wound in the flesh that would then sear itself shut.

The worst part of this rapid healing was that he now felt every wound at the same time. He could feel his flesh regrowing. he could feel the open veins and arteries sewing themselves shut. He could feel the bones cracking, snapping, repositioning, and then fusing back together; all to reset themselves. He could feel the muscle fibers, the tendons and torn ligaments, stretching out, grabbing onto the place where they were formerly latched to, then the strands would multiply, cramming themselves together under the newly regrown skin as it tried to zip itself together but would be torn in places by the regrowing muscle and bone, only to zip itself shut again. He felt all of this. And the pain... It made him scream...

All of this happened in just a few moments. No longer than five minutes had passed since the blood first touched his lips, but in that time so much had happened. When he first regained consciousness he jumped with a start, then upon feeling what his body was going through and the resistance his winglets were giving began to scream and thrash about in pain. he fell into the wall several times, but the wounds just closed soon after they were opened. As his body neared the end of its horrific "healing", he managed to utter "W-what's h-happening to me-e?..."

The pain then became too much to bear, and as he stood there, a body of mangled wings and bleeding lacerations, it was almost possible to see the skin and bone regrowing, it sort of faded into view where the wounds had been. His mind able to take no more, he collapsed... and then he fell. He fell hard. Smashing into the rock hard ground, breaking his jaw and dislocating a shoulder, his forward momentum pushed his face into the ground, tearing off chunks of skin and opening new wounds along his face. If he had not already been unconscious this would have surely made him so. His body hadn't stopped moving from the fall before the jaw had been painfully reset, the dislocated shoulder twisted, torn, and reset, and the abrasions on his face zipped up and healed. His body was as healed as it was going to get for now. He was grateful for his new gift of life, but he couldn't help but wonder how much a gift like this would cost...

Artemis sobbed as she tried to hold the man. But he kept thrashing about until she could no longer keep hold. After the few moments that seemed to last hours had gone by the man fell to the ground hard, causing more injuries. Artemis had tried to grab him as he fell but hadn't moved quickly enough.

She pulled the man into her lap and began to sob as quietly as possible. It had been an eternity since the last time she had cried at all, and yet this event had proven she still had some of her humanity left within her.

"Forgive me please." She whispered to the unconscious man. "If I had known that this would cause you such pain..." Artemis couldn't finish. What would she have done? What options had been left open for her? This had been the only thing that she was almost positive would keep him alive.

"I'll never share blood with anyone again. Not if it causes such pain as this." She sobbed as rocked the man in arms.

"Please forgive me." She whispered.

Time passed... And he dreamed... It could have been days, years, hours or minutes. He couldn't tell. All he knew, was that he slept.

And not all dreams are good ones. He dreamt of his banishment, his ascension, his time among the living, and his time among the dead. And he rested. his broken body had been through a tremendous amount in the moments before his collapse. he didn't know whether it had been hours or minutes between his Fall and his fall, it felt like a millennium. His body has been torn to the brink of complete failure and had been brought back in mere moments.

And he rest. Oh what a sweet rest it was. a sweeter rest can be known only in death, for the depth of his sleep crept down into his very bones. He was at peace.

but all good things must come to an end, or so we've been told. And as such, he was brought back from his sleep by the rain. slowly, slowly, he began to wake up. he wasn't quite sure where he was anymore, so much had happened so quickly it was hard to keep track. but the rain gave him something to focus on, something to reach toward to bring himself back to consciousness. he was trying.

And as he regained more and more awareness of his surrounding he noticed that he could feel, he felt the cool floor beneath him, he felt the icy breeze that moved around him, he felt the dark sky glaring upon him, and he felt the cool rain as it... but the rain wasn't cool. It was... warm? He felt the warm rain as it fell upon his face, leaving glistening trails down his cheek. He tried to breath, but his nostrils were still clogged with remnants of his healing. He opened his mouth and felt the icy wind sting his lungs and the warm rain slid down his face and rest upon his lips. he could taste. The rain tasted tainted, not the pure rain from the clouds he was used to. it was probably acid rain... no, this taste was salty. What kind of a place was this that had salty rain?

he opened his eyes. He saw a maiden holding him in her arms, she was covered in blood her felt sure was his own, and she was... crying?

"Why are you crying madam? Are you okay? What's happened here?"

He tried to stand but his limbs could barely hold his own weight. Although the muscle and bone had been regenerated, it had not been replenished with it's lost nutrients. He needed sustenance and rest to regain his lost strength. He fell the few inches he had managed to raise himself back into the maiden's lap.

"I'd offer to help but it appears I am in no condition to even help myself. I see that i am still alive, i assume i have you to thank for tha---"

He stopped mid-sentence and grabbed his chest and stomach, letting out a silenced scream as he began to convulse.

It lasted only a few short seconds, and then he waited a few more seconds before attempting to speak again.

In a worried tone He asked her, "What was that? What's going on? Please tell me, what happened?"

"My name is Artemis. I am the Captain of the Guardians and Mages of the city of Aeronwen. Aeronwen is where you are now.

As to what happened, I can only assume that you have fallen from Heaven and then you're wings were nailed to the fence about a mile back. You must have crushed the bone to get away. I heard a woman shriek so I came to investigate and found you.

You were near death. I am a Panwere, so since you weren't Human my blood was able to heal you without taking you over and making you a Panwere as well. But it seems the healing was only your body tearing itself apart to pull itself back together. You....you....." She couldn't say anymore. She looked away in shame for she had been the one to cause him so much pain. She should have just taken him to the doctor and let the doctor fix him up. But because she didn't, he had to suffer because she thought she could help him better than the new doctor.

Looking up to the teary eyed maiden who had just saved his life, he raised a hand to her face and nudged her chin so that she would face him. He looked into her eyes, and through the tears he could see the sadness she felt.

"Thank you. You have saved my life, although there are those who would have chosen otherwise."

"Don't worry about any pain you may have caused me", he said with a slight twinge. "It merely means that i am alive. You yourself seem to be in pain. I can see it in your eyes, you suffer from great mental anguish. I cannot imagine the horrors you must have seen and been through and the nightmares that must still plague you. "

"if you were to take a few of the feathers from my wings that i've left back there and boil them with some tea leaves they might be able to help you get a good nights sleep and let you rest to silence some of your personal demons."

"I only wish that i could repay my debt in some way. You've taken my life into your hands and have chosen to revive it. I am in your debt."

"A panwere is an interesting thing to be. There were not many in this realm on my last visit, but that was some time ago. Tell me, has this changed much. Have the panwere grown and formed their own clan?"

Artemis almost laughed. "I have never met another Panwere. I am only a Panwere by accident. Or maybe it was intentional.

I went to see how the royal family of the Weretigers was doing to find them slain by a large band of many different Lycans. I became their target and only survived because they did not kill me immediately. They made the mistake of wanting torture me. Not smart on their part." Artemis explained.

"Since then the council has wanted nothing to do with me. The council and King and Queen are the ones who make the laws and appoint others to power here. When I was human was when I was in their favor. But that time has long since passed." Artemis said telling him a little of Aeronwen.

"wow, i guess things have really changed since i last came down. Back then the few panweres that existed were treated rather highly among those with the therianthropic abilities. The other's didn't want to have too much to do with them, but that was out of fear and misunderstanding, they still didn't hate them though."

"When i left they were trying to find the others and band together to form their own clan so that they could gain ground in spreading acceptance of their kind, but if you've never met another then that must mean something went dreadfully wrong. I would say that i hoped they were okay but i doubt it. Not if they weren't able to form their clan."

"Please, tell me more of what's been going on here. If i am to survive long in this realm then i'm going to need to know who i can ally and who would wish to finish what the divine started." he said as he sat up and managed to lean against the wall so that he could listen and recuperate a little.
